Why Have a Digital Office?

During the development of the Dunedin Digital Strategy in 2010, there was a clear message from the Dunedin public that community specific projects needed to be led by the community.

The Digital Office was set up to lead and support the Digital Strategy projects and ensure the proposed benefits are achieved.   It is a not-for-profit organisation reliant on local businesses and the community for support and funding.

The Challenge

In the 19th century distance was reduced by railways and shipping.  In the 20th century motorways and air travel reduced it further.

In the 21st century distance in increasing being conquered by digital communication technology.

The challenge today is to understand and seize the opportunity.
